Brain Type 15:

Impulsive, Sad & Anxious

Experiencing emotional ups and downs? Find it hard to concentrate? It’s not you, it’s your brain! SPECT scans of individuals with Brain Type 15 commonly reveal decreased activity in the prefrontal cortex (the brain’s brake system), increased activity in the brain’s anxiety centers, and hyperactivity in the limbic or emotional centers of the brain, which can cause fluctuations in mood and a propensity towards pessimism.

SPECT scans of individuals with Brain Type 15 typically show decreased activity in the prefrontal cortex (PFC). Think of the PFC as the brain’s brake system. The PFC stops you from saying or doing things that aren’t in your best interest, but also can halt creative, innovative, out-of-the-box thinking if it works too hard.

People with Brain Type 15 also may have low levels of dopamine, a neurotransmitter involved with focus and motivation, which can make it hard to concentrate. People with this Brain Type usually need excitement or stimulation to stay focused. This is the “impulsive” side of Brain Type 15.

The SPECT scans of individuals with Brain Type 15 also reveal heightened activity in the brain’s anxiety centers, including the basal ganglia, insular cortex, and amygdala. This is often attributed to lower levels of GABA, a neurotransmitter known for its calming effects. People with this Brain Type are usually driven towards their goals, but oscillate between intense pleasure and bouts of anxiousness and nervousness.

Those with Brain Type 15 tend to display increased activity in the limbic or emotional centers of the brain too. This heightened sensitivity and empathy can be a gift, but it also may bring about mood issues, negative thoughts, and pessimistic tendencies.

The good news? You have the power to rewire your brain!

Omega-3 fatty acids and high-quality supplements that support healthy dopamine and GABA levels are highly beneficial in achieving balance for those with Brain Type 15.
